Getting About in the Greater Bristol Area - Accessibility

Access to places in this region is continually improving, thanks in part to the impact of the Disability Discrimination Act. At the same time improvements are being made to make public transport accessible to disabled people. However, there is still much that needs to be done to make all transport equally accessible, so this website has been produced to help you find out how to get around the area if you are less mobile or disabled.

How to use this site

Welcome to Getting About in the Greater Bristol Area - a website to help disabled people find out about transport in Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. The website provides information about travel using all forms of transport in the area. There is also a section containing useful information and helpful organisations for disabled motorists.

The website will be kept regularly up to date to include latest improvements in access to buses, trains, taxis, community transport services as well as interchange points: bus stations, rail stations and airports.

This website gives an introduction to getting about in the area by different types of transport and points the way to finding all the detailed transport information that disabled people need to choose the best way to make their chosen journeys. It does this by giving direct links to the websites of transport, travel and related organisations that can give more detailed information for particular journeys.

Of course everyone may need or wish to travel beyond the boundaries of the area covered by this website, or find out information about other travel matters, from changes in legislation about transport for disabled people to help with travelling abroad. Therefore on each page there is a button which gives a direct link to the appropriate section of “Door–to-Door”, the government website about all aspects of travel and transport for disabled and less mobile people commissioned by the Disabled Persons Transport Committee (DPTAC).
